San Javier is located in Murcia's attractive La Manga resort area, the strip of land separating Mediterranean Blue Flag beaches from the shores of Europe’s biggest saltwater lagoon, Mar Menor.
Thousands of visitors head here for their holidays or to make a new home for themselves. They’re attracted by the wonderful warm, dry climate and the closeness to the airport, making travel back and forth to the UK so quick and easy.
A road trip into the imposing mountain area makes a refreshing change from the beach; you can take in the scenery and sample excellent food at reasonable prices in many small village bars and restaurants.
Along the San Javier coastal area you can enjoy splashing in the crashing waves of the Med or floating on your back in the still calm waters of the incredible Mar Menor lagoon.
San Javier has two Blue Flag beaches, Castillico and Banco del Tabal, where you can sunbathe on clean sand and cool down in clear water. More beaches can be found at Santiago de la Ribera and La Manga del Mar Menor.
If you’re looking for more energetic activities, you don’t have to go far for the fantastic watersports at San Pedro del Pinatar’s marina.
Mar Menor,or the little sea, is Europe’s largest and most spectacular saltwater lagoon. Home to migratory birds, including dramatic pink flamingoes, it has been popular since Roman times.
For centuries people have come here to float in the warm waters of the lagoon and benefit from the well documented healing properties of the mud, known to be especially effective for treating muscular aches and pains and also being great for the skin.
